Last week, the MBF team had the opportunity to visit CAT footwear’s
first ever pop up shop in the US. CAT, a
Timberland meets Doc Martens footwear company based out of Illinois, has come a
long way from their original business plan of making earthmoving equipment,
machinery and engines.
Their latest SS15 collection shown on the corner of Lexington and 47th displayed durable but stylish footwear that seems to be in key with trends seen all over the runways. CAT’s combat boots, sneakers and work boots for both men and women hit the androgynous trend perfectly.

In the shop one could see the full-blown Fall/Winter14 collection while
we got a sneak preview of SS15. CAT presented their collection in a series of 4
segments. 8 models stood on pedestals
dressed in clothing from various vendors including Top Shop, Levi’s, and
NastyGal for each of the 4 presentations.
The styling was a fantastic reflecting of where CAT fits in the market,
talking very much to the millenniums. The models as a whole carried a
very laid-back vibe, sporting relaxed clothing, sunglasses and even dancing to
the music while joking with the crowd. Because of the relaxed presentation, we could walk up closely to see evey detail of the shows – which was great!
The first segment called “White Heat” featured all neutral everything
from the classic Colorado boot in a snow white to a nude color stacked heeled
women’s bootie. The look change happened seamlessly, cleverly included into the
event.

The second segment was called “Black and white” and showed just that.
This segment featured print designs from graphic designer, Camille Walala shown in a flatform sneaker and work boots. The third segment was called “colorful
freestyle” which was a stark turn from the first two themes, offering vibrant
prints and colors from saturated blues to bright green.
One of our favorite looks was called “Denim on Denim” featured monochromatic looks
of all blue, minus the footwear. This collection showed a more neutral pallet
for the shoes but featured one of our favorite boots - the leopard print obviously - as well as a favorite of
celebrities like Rita Ora.

As for the venue, the corner Pop-Up was
held in an intimate space on New York City’s East Side. The outside, covered in
a the signature CAT yellow concealed the entire side window only allowing
visibility to the event through cut outs in the shape of the signature CAT
Colorado boot. The front window showed off several different styles of CAT
boots from their upcoming collection. The crowed was an amazing mix of bloggers, magazine editors, photographers and people on the cutting edge of Fashion.
The craftsmanship and details put into the collection were above and
beyond expectations. For the price point
ranging from $80 - $200, the quality is impeccable. The boots are beyond
durable, incorporating the latest technology in tread design and everything
from slip resistant (for those slippery New York sidewalks) to waterproof and
puncture resistant properties. CAT for sure thought of everything!
And guess what!? You can go and shop
the FW Collection at the Pop-Up shop at the same location on the corner of Lexington and 47th throughout October (schedule here). On October 21st, style bloggers Adam Gallagher of IAMGALLA and Sazan Barzani will be co-hosting a CAT shopping event while giving style tips and shopping advice!
Go and check it out – you will not be
disappointed! We promise
